This Classic tour of Essential Colombia starts with its Capital, Bogotá, called “The Athens of South America”, for the abundance of Universities, libraries, interesting museums and cultural events. In this visit you will begin with the
Old Town, with plenty of colonial buildings and graceful churches, see the picturesque neighborhood of La Candelaria, have the opportunity to ride to Monserrate Sanctuary and visit the colorful Paloquemao market to enjoy the typical cuisine.
Your next visit will be Zipaquirá where you will see the marvelous underground Salt Cathedral and then continue to explore La Laguna De Guatavita, the Sacred Lake and ritual place of The Muisca Indians that became famous for the Legend of El Dorado. You won´t find any gold now butinsteada rich land full of beautiful landscapes.
To follow the journey, you will arrive in “Paisa Country” as the locals call their region, Antioquia, first stop will be its Capital, Medellín, surrounded by rugged peaks, everywhere you look, give this city stunning and dramatic views, to complement it with the warmth and graciousness of its people, pleasant climate of mild temperatures all year round, Medellín deserves its nickname “City of Eternal Spring” which is also one of Latin America´s more modern cities that make this place worth to visit.
From here, you will take a trip to the Lake Peñol,climb to the top of the Peñol, 200 mts (656 ft) high monolith rising from the banks of the lake that will reward you with a fantastic bird´s eye view of the beautiful lake and surrounding areas, visit the picturesque town of Guatapé famous for its decorated Zócalos, which traditionally tell the story or heritage of the family or business who own the house, making it the Most Colourful town in Colombia.
The following day you will have the opportunity to go to Santa Elena´s village for a Silleteros Tour,which are the participants in the annual flowers festival and the creators of plus-size images of animals, people and objects. See where the flowers come from by visiting a flower farm, chat with the flower farmer, or silletero, and stroll the farm taking in all the flowers and their lovely aromas. Then visit Santa Elena, where farmers produce an abundant variety of tropical and local flowers, for an authentic Colombian Experience.
Finalize your trip, travelling to the Caribbean Coast of Colombia, to the fascinating city of Cartagena De Indias UNESCO World Heritage Site, called by the locals “La Fantástica” with its history, legends, magic, andvibrant nightlife, this Colonial town full of history, legends, and sheer beauty will enchant you from the moment you stroll through its maze of cobblestone alleys and balconies adorned with buganvilias.
